About the clinic

Speedy recovery and personalised care.

Eating and drinking are more than just basic necessities – they are essential for your health and daily life. Persistent nausea, vomiting, heartburn or difficulty swallowing can make even simple meals stressful, affecting your energy and wellbeing.

To address these challenges, the team at Nuffield Tunbridge Wells helped create one of the UK's first independent clinics dedicated to advanced treatments for the upper digestive tract. They combine extensive experience with the latest medical expertise in managing functional disorders of the stomach and oesophagus, including conditions that affect stomach motility.

There is a particular focus on gastroparesis (gastric paralysis). As a certified digestive centre, the clinic also offers gastric pacemaker therapy as an additional treatment option. Learn more about Enterra® Therapy →

Mr Nick Boyle

Consultant Surgeon · Founder of RefluxUK

Nick Boyle, founder of RefluxUK, is recognised as one of the UK's foremost specialists in the treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and motility disorders of the upper GI tract. He leads a highly experienced multidisciplinary team and works across several renowned medical centres – including King Edward VII's Hospital in Harley Street, Nuffield Health at St Bartholomew's Hospital, and Nuffield Tunbridge Wells.

As a consultant surgeon, Nick focuses on laparoscopic, upper-gastrointestinal and reflux surgery. His surgical training took place at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in London, followed by advanced laparoscopic training at the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit in Guildford. A graduate of the University of Southampton, he also earned a Master of Surgery from the University of London and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has held a consultant post since 2000.

Over the years, Nick has continued to refine his expertise. He established the UK's first dedicated multidisciplinary reflux team in 2013 and introduced innovative procedures such as LINX® and RefluxStop™, performing the latter for the first time in the UK. His research has explored the link between the gut microbiome and reflux symptoms. With numerous publications and international recognition, he regularly speaks at medical conferences worldwide and was elected President of the European Foregut Society in 2024.

In 2015, Nick founded RefluxUK to make the multidisciplinary care model accessible to more patients and improve outcomes for those living with chronic reflux and gastroparesis. Nick and his team were among the first to use Enterra® Therapy to treat gastroparesis in the UK.
